Adult Care Services / Children’s Services Cabinet Member
As an Executive Member you will want to ensure that:
- Your authority leads an effective multi-agency Carers’ Strategy
as required by guidance on the Carers and Disabled Children Act 2000 and the Carers Equal Opportunities Act 2004. A toolkit to help identify progress on key themes of a Carers’ Strategy is available here
- Carers have easy access to ways they can be heard when your authority is making plans around commissioning and service development and training its staff. In particular you will want to ensure they can get involved in the scrutiny process and that Cabinet hears carers’ views about progress and/or reviews of the Carers’ Strategy.
- Local Area Agreements are used in partnership with the NHS and District Councils as a vehicle to identify how carers can be better supported such as support to working carers to ensure their full participation in the labour market click here for Carers UK LAA Briefing
- Staff who have caring responsibilities have access to the flexibilities that you can provide as an employer, as required by the Work and Families Act 2006 click here for Carers UK materials.
- Your Chief Executive has a plan in place to ensure that carers are always considered as a group. Public authorities need to consider the impact of all their decision making upon carers.
A tool is attached click here
- Your Chief Executive has a process in place for ensuring Children’s and Adults’ Services are clear about the ways they need to join up to deliver appropriate support to parent carers of disabled children through the transition process and to young carers who may be identified by adults services.
